Obituary for Jeremiah M. Baker

Jeremiah Matthew Baker, 31, of Stephens City, VA, died on Monday, September 4, 2017 in Austin, TX

Jeremiah was born on April 11, 1986 in Winchester, VA, a son of Jerry L. Baker and his wife Courtney of Sandston, VA and Beth Ann Whitacre Goodwin and her husband Mike of Gore, VA. He was an inspiring alto saxophone musician having established the online music school Harmony Rising. Jeremiah had previously performed in the AMPM Saxophone quartet and in the Timeless Virtuosity at the Peabody Conservatory both in Baltimore, MD.

Jeremiah was a 2004 graduate of Sherando High School in Stephens City, VA and a graduate from the Peabody Conservatory with a master’s degree in music. He enjoyed personal training, cycling and had received a black belt in Taekwondo. But, most of all his love was his music.

Surviving with his parents is a brother: Jesse A. Baker and his wife Jenna of Middleton, WI; his grandfather: Jacob M. Baker of Stephens City, VA: his uncles: Joe Whitacre of Paw Paw, WV; Jacob Baker, Jr. of Front Royal; an aunt: JoAnn Baker of Winchester, VA and a step-brother: Bryan Goodwin of Strasburg, VA. He is preceded in death by his maternal grandparents: Glenn & Linda Whitacre and his paternal grandmother: Faye Baker.

A celebration of Jeremiah’s life will be held at the Giffin Funeral Home & Crematory in Capon Bridge on Monday, September 11, 2017 at 7:00 PM. Officiating will be Pastor Steven T. Szelmeczki. Inurnment will be privately held. Family will receive friends at the funeral home two hours prior from 5-7 PM.
