Obituary for Madeline Whitacre

Madeline Whitacre, 63, of Gore, VA died on Monday, January 1, 2018 at the Blue Ridge Hospice Inpatient Care Center in Winchester, VA.

Madeline was born on November 23, 1954 in Washington D.C., a daughter Ruth E. Stephenson Hitaffer of Stephens City, VA and the late William M. Hitaffer. She was a 1974 graduate of James Wood High School, worked for Fredrick County Middle School, owner & operator of Helping Hands Cleaning and worked as a receptionist for Winchester Eye Specialist. Madeline enjoyed sewing and attending auctions.

Madeline married Roger D. Whitacre on April 29, 1972 in Hayfield, VA.

Surviving with her mother and husband of 45 years is a son: Adam J. “A.J.” Whitacre of Winchester, VA; two daughters: Samantha J. Elkins and husband Tom; Melissa S. Rogers and husband Dennis both of Winchester, VA; two brothers: William “Billy” Hitaffer of Gore, VA; Michael Hitaffer of Stephens City, VA; a sister: Cheryl Hitaffer of Winchester, VA; six grandchildren: Laura, Sarah, Jonathan, Anna, Caroline and Rachael.

A funeral service will be held at the Giffin Funeral Home & Crematory in Capon Bridge, WV on Saturday, January 6, 2018 at 1:00 PM. Pastor John Miller. Interment will follow in the Ebenezer Cemetery in Gore, VA.

Family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday from 11:00-1:00 PM.
