Obituary for Charles F. "Chuck" Portmess, Jr.

Charles Franklin “Chuck” Portmess, 74, of High View, WV passed away on Saturday, December 8, 2018 at the Hospice of the Panhandle Inpatient Care Center in Kearneysville, WV surrounded by his family.

Chuck was born in Paw Paw, WV on December 13, 1943, the son of the late Charles F. Portmess, Sr. and Mary Roby Portmess. He retired from the United States Air Force in Great Falls, Montana in January 31, 1984 after 20 years of service, later moving his family back to West Virginia.

Chuck enjoyed his talent of art, reflecting on his love of the Montana mountains in many of his paintings. Due to his love of nature, he was a passionate photographer. He also was a car enthusiast since childhood.

Surviving is his wife of 55 years: Nancy Moreland Portmess; two caring daughters: Rhonda S. Portmess Berg and Angela M. Portmess Mantz and son in law, Steve all of Capon Bridge, WV; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; special neighbors: Gary and Janet Cool and his beloved dog: Ceanna Lynn.

He is preceded in death by three sisters: Betty Fowler, Wanda Berryman and Jenene Smith and an infant brother: David.

All services are being privately held as requested by Chuck.
