Obituary for Deloris L. "Billie" Simmons

Billie LaFollette Simmons, 89, will be laid to rest beside her husband, Owen D. Simmons, and next to her parents Lohr and Beatrice LaFollette, Sister, Vileta and brother-in-law, Gladstone Spaid in the cemetery of Timber Ridge Christian Church, High View, WV following Visitation from Noon to 1:00 PM with a Service a 1 PM on Saturday, Nov. 10 at Giffin Funeral Home, Capon Bridge, West Virginia.

With family present, Miss Billie passed Tuesday November 6, 2018 peacefully because of the wonderful supportive care of the Assisted Living staff of Trinity Oaks, aided by Trellis Supportive Care.

Billie lived most of her active adult life in Leesburg, Virginia employed as a telephone operator, receptionist for DECO Electronics, Eligibility Worker for Social Services and Quality Control Reviewer for the State of VA. Since she was the only Professional QC Agent without a degree, Billie returned to college as a single mother and earned her BSW from George Mason University at the age of 47. Billie left professional social work and using her people skills became a successful Real Estate Broker in Loudoun County VA.

Preparing to retire and meeting an old flame from High School who became her new husband, Billie and Owen were persuaded by her oldest son, Jay Boulter, his wife, Lyn of Salisbury, NC and their daughters, Shannon (Drew) Rybarczyk of Holly Springs, NC and Leah (Jesse) Bouk of Mooresville, NC to relocate to Salisbury, NC. Billie often told the story of complaining before moving to Salisbury she would not have anyone with whom to play bridge. Later, Billie often stated there are more bridge players in Salisbury than all of Loudoun County, VA. In addition to playing bridge in several different groups, Billie was active in the AAUW, Newcomers Club and St. Luke’s Episcopal Church. Billie also enjoyed the Salisbury Symphony and the Piedmont Players.

In addition to her oldest son, his wife and their daughters, Billie is survived by her two -year old great grandson, Bryce Bouk, Three-year–great-grandson, Will Rybarczyk, and five year-old great-granddaughter, Megan Rybarczyk, who as they say, “does not fall very far from that tree”. Billie is also survived by her daughter Karen (Leonard, deceased) Robertson of Harrington, WA and Billie’s youngest son , Patrick Boulter of Little River, SC and his sons; Carson and Holden.

Aunt Billie also loved and was beloved by her niece, Scarlet (Charlie) Serfriet and nephews, Kenneth-deceased Spaid and Galen (Jeannie) Spaid and her grand and great-grand nieces and nephews. A highlight of Billie’s life each year was to spend a week with her extended family at Sunset Beach, NC. Billie as a Mother, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother, Aunt, Great Aunt and Great - Great Aunt loved life to the fullest and to the last.
