Obituary for Lee Anna Mielzarek

Lee Anna Mielzarek, 80, of Yellow Spring, WV died on Saturday, September 30, 2017 at the Winchester Medical Center.

Lee Anna was born July 22, 1937, in Altoona, PA, the daughter of George and Nellie Mays Hammond. She devoted her life to bettering the lives of children and adults with mental retardation. She worked as the adult program director for the Montgomery County, MD Association for Retarded Citizens, former director of the Hope Center in Temple Hills, MD, co-founder/director of Camp Shenandoah in Mountain Falls, VA, co-founder/director of Concord in Yellow Springs, WV. She was a member of the Capon Valley Ruritan also in Yellow Spring. Lee Anna had a love of gardening, traveling, art and most of all her granddaughter, Nix.

Lee Anna married Rolf H. Mielzarek on May 29, 1969 in Tacoma Park, MD.

Surviving with her husband of 48 years are her children: Erik P. Mielzarek and his wife Noel of Yellow Spring, WV; Kara L. Mielzarek of Fort Lauderdale, FL; a brother: Jack Hammond of Tacoma Park, MD and her granddaughter: Nix W. Mielzarek.

Dear friends are invited to come share memories of our beloved wife, mother & grandmother on Saturday, October 7, 2017 from 1-4 PM at the family home to celebrate her life.
